Barcode Standards
The 13-digit EAN-13 European Article Number as a GTIN standard consists of these three main components.
UPC
The Universal Product Code (UPC) is a barcode symbology that is widely used in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries for tracking trade items in stores.
EAN
The European Article Number (EAN) is a Global Trade Item Number standard describing a barcode symbology and numbering system. It’s used in global trade to identify a specific retail product type, from a specific manufacturer.
GTIN
Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) can be used by a company to uniquely identify all of its trade items. GTIN describes a family of EAN and UPC global data structures. For North American companies, the UPC is an existing form of the GTIN.
